Ultimate Baked Beans

Ok, I've searched and searched for just the right Baked Bean recipe. Didn't find one I liked enough to make 'em again.

Anyway, I took from a few different recipes, tweaked this 'n that, and here's what I came up with. Keep in mind that this makes a pretty big batch, but there won't be much left over.

Baked Beans

1 #10 Can Bush's Original Baked Beans (drain most of the liquid)
1 lb bacon
1 lb Jimmy Dean Original Sausage
1 cup BBQ Sauce
2 T Cider Vinegar
2 T Yellow Mustard
1 large chopped onion
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Sweet BBQ Rub
1/4 Cup Molasses
1 T Grumpy Gator Hickory Bacon Spice

Cut the bacon into 1" pieces and brown. Set aside on paper towels to drain. (save the grease in the pan when you're done)
Brown the sausage, breaking into small pieces as it cooks. Set aside when done.

Add a little bacon grease back into your frying pan and saute the onions until translucent.

Mix all the ingredients together. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. I use the throw-away aluminum rectangular pans from Sam's, although you can get similar pans at the local grocery. A large lasagne pan will work also.

I like to mix the ingredients together the night before I'm going to cook and keep in the fridge so all the ingredients can "get to know each other".

I used the TexasBBQRub, but you can substitute your own. The Texas BBQ Rub is a fairly sweet rub with moderate spice. If you haven't tried it, you should: www.texasbbqrub.com.

** for purposes of making more or less of this recipe, a #10 can is approximately 3 quarts.
